Hooray, it’s been a while since my last post, but things are finally starting to move. About a month ago I was visited by a now-retired gentleman (who was apparently the IT head of Centerville Schools) who looked at my situation and made some notes.
A little over a week ago I got a phone call from some outfit that said they would be running fiber to the outside of my house, and that I wouldn’t have to be there for them to complete their work.
Well today, 10/19/2022, they arrived, a crew of three with a bucket truck and a big roll of single-mode fiber in their trailer. They completed their work in a competent manner in about 20 minutes.
They ran one fiber pair from the side of my house (where AT&T and Spectrum also connected) out to the pole where the backbone fiber was previously installed. Below is a picture of the pole end.
They left a roll of fiber strapped to whatever was convenient (in this case, the old AT&T DSL twisted-pair cable), with the end taped up to prevent any damage to the end. See the picture below.
